In the context of Human Settlement Issues themselves…, and of how A Region … experiences it’s very own Roots / History and Legacy , brings me to the observation that with the Gateway Project at our very doorstep…, as well as taking in the Transformative Changes that is coming in the Cities of Coquitlam , Port Coquitlam and Port Moody as well as the Incorporated Villages of Anmore and Belcarra…
( and without forgetting the two other Human Settlements / Villages of .. Kwikwetlem and Maillardville…. )… leads me to ask of all levels of Governments to please take into consideration the SOCIAL CAPITAL ASSETS OF RIVERVIEW LANDS… , which by all accounts offers up an OASIS for all regional Settlements and Settlers of this AREA., of the Lower Mainland in General… and not only Provincial residents but Canadian Residents as well.. .. !!!! ( and if this is done right.. , the World will one day come to this Wonderfull Site to Experience… , SOLUTIONS TO HUMAN SETTLEMENTS… .. in an URBAN SETTING such as VANCOUVER and The Lower Mainland… and this turnplate REGION… , which is now entering it’s most dramatic Transformation and Change… .. / and is the reason that these LANDS should be set aside to in fact…, preserve a bit of Sanity… , in a World… that in effect… is going through turbulent transformation and Changes itself… ,
i would say that our QUALITY OF LIVING… and the very SOLUTIONS we will need.. , points to NATURE and UNIQUE GREEN SPACES… , enhanced by ARCHITECTURAL ELEGANCE and BEAUTY… ( representing the best that Society had to offer then… and becoming an inspiration for what we need to think of for our FUTURE.. !!!!! )…
The HOSPITAL OF THE MIND… , was one way to describe this PLACE, once upon a time.. .. , as was many other names that were added.. with the Development of this Provincial institution… !!!!
So what i propose is that we consider bringing the HABITAT UNITED NATIONS ARCHIVES… OF HUMAN SETTLEMENT ISSUES.. stored at UBC… , as a first step in the RECONSTRUCTION OF THIS SITE… , by taking in all the STAKEHOLDERS that have been identified…, and factoring the LEGACY that has been passed on with the MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES provided… ,
The Kwikwetlem Village also needs to be consulted on this effort .. , as the VIEW from this LAND… unto the RIVER.. surelly played a role.. in this thousands of Years old Culture….
Indeed…, what I’m driving at… , is the steps taken thus far by one of the CITIES… , via it’s Statement of Significance effort…, as well as the approaches made… to UBCM… , as welll as to the Federal Gvt… IN TERMS OF SEEKING TO HAVE THIS SITE DECLARED A NATIONAL HERITAGE SITE ……… indeed… , for this one City. / COQUITLAM… , to have spearheaded the efforts to have these Lands being preserved for Future Generations… , deserves High Praise… !!!!!!
Now it is up to the Provincial Gvt to step up to the Plate… and see this process through…, by letting Canada itself…, through it’s HERITAGE SITE STUDY… .. arrive at some STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE itself…!!!! … ( which would clear the way for Federal Matching Fundings … should that Study support the Claims made by not only COQUITLAM itself.. , but by UBCM and BC. Chamber of Commerce and many many more Professional Bodies who have come to Discover the SIGNIFICANCE of this WORLD CLASS HERITAGE SITE .. !!!!!
There is with this Exploration of Historical and Heritage Values… of RIVERVIEW LANDS… A beginning like no other… , and all we have to do… is take all things / factors and good measures into consideration and never ever forget the Human Settlement challenges that we all face… in this very transformative 21st Century..!!!!
Thanks for the opportunity to Voice my thoughts on this effort of yours…,
Cheers…

To Whom It May Concern
In response to the public hearings about the Heritage Conservation Plan for Riverview I urge the government to see to the fact that the Riverview lands, trees and buildings should remain public, accessible, and dedicated to the needs of people living with mentally illness.
Many groups have expressed this need over the last month, including the Riverview Horticultural Centre Society and the Riverview Hospital Historical Society. Particularly the latter group has already done much work to preserve the rich and important history of Riverview Hospital.
I am currently conducting research on the history of mental health care in the province and also work closely with many clinicians and mental health nurses in the field who know first hand the importance of permanent living support for people with mental illness which need to take many forms. The Riverview site offers much opportunity to continue sustained support for people with mental illness through work opportunities, housing and service.
I urge the government to dedicate the site to the needs of people living with mental illness and their families. I also urge the government to use the site for historical preservations of this important history in the province.
